City Downland Estate Programme Manager
A unique, exciting new role has arisen in the Council, vital to its Agricultural Estate. The council is immensely fortunate to own nearly 13,500 acres of the South Downs within and beyond the City’s boundaries - a stunning farmed landscape and hugely valuable asset for all our residents and those who visit it.

We are seeking an exceptional Programme Manager with a proven track record and experience of managing and implementing complex programmes to deliver the City Downland Estate Plan, engaging with a diverse range of people with varying degrees of interest, specialisms and influencing and negotiating at a senior level. You will have knowledge and experience of property and land management practices and a passion for the natural environment.
The City Downland Estate Plan is a policy document endorsed by South Downs National Park Authority, that sets out the council’s aims, objectives and vision for its rural estate over the next 100 years.

This is a significant opportunity to play a key leadership role in an ambitious council and contribute to our Climate Change and Carbon Neutral Agenda alongside a committed and strong Property and Design service.
You will have strong interpersonal skills, be a highly skilled communicator, a values-driven and politically astute leader committed to partnership working and passionate about the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda.
You will be working collaboratively with colleagues across the council and relevant organisations across the city to make connections to deliver shared goals. You will have the qualities to build effective relationships, and to ensure action is targeted where it is most needed.

The role is very much place based and there will be a requirement to work from a range of locations including some not reachable by public transport, therefore the ability to drive would be required.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
Work Permits: This role does not meet the requirement for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System. Successful candidates will need to evidence that they have the Right to Work in the UK.
We offer the opportunity for the suitable candidate to choose to work in a hybrid way. Your specific working arrangements will be subject to team and service working arrangements already in place alongside Government guidance. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.
