About the role
You will work in our small, friendly, and supportive Housing Major Adaptations team providing creative solutions to enable residents with a wide spectrum of needs to continue to live safely and independently with a good quality of life for as long as possible.
Our ethos here in Brighton & Hove is to put our clients at the centre of everything we do, and we actively encourage staff within the team to work together & with other colleagues across all departments such as social care, so that we can better meet the needs of our clients. The provision of major adaptations is central to the delivery of our goals, and we work alongside a team of technicians and caseworkers who help support and inform the work we do.
It is an exciting time to join us as we look to continue to improve our service offer to our residents. Currently, we are working to develop new online systems which will provide more choice and options for our customers, and we are particularly keen to develop our digital offer. You would have the opportunity to contribute to this work.
You will be expected to manage a diverse caseload, including complex cases.
This will involve:
- Developing clear, concise, and cost-effective recommendations for major adaptations and presenting these plans to clients and the major adaptations panel
- carrying out assessments of clients’ needs including, functional, moving and handling assessments
- Where appropriate you be required to assess for & prescribe equipment to compliment the major adaptation work
- providing information and advice to empower clients to manage any health conditions/disabilities
- preparing reports
- supervising Occupational Therapy Assistants within the team (as required)
- contributing to specific project work and improvements to the service. (as required).
- be an experienced, qualified Occupational Therapist and hold current HCPC registration
- ideally have significant experience of major adaptations work in the community or a good general knowledge of this work
- have experience of working in community-based settings with a broad range of functional needs
- have experience of working with clients with complex manual handling needs
- be an excellent communicator both orally and in writing
- be able to build effective working relationships with clients, colleagues and other professionals
- have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- be able to organise and prioritise your workload
- have good ICT and excellent time management skills

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
