About the role

2 x Transport Accessibility Officers for a fixed term of 1 year required to support the team through digital improvements. The TAO role assesses applications and issues Blue Badges, Bus Passes and taxi vouchers for eligible residents in the city to improve accessibility and overcome barriers they may face when travelling.

You must be willing to learn and interpret government guidance in order to make the correct decisions and ensure only those eligible have access to concessions. You will need to work closely with the team members, internal and external professionals and be able to request additional information where needed in order to support an application.

Customer service is important to the team and you would be expected to contribute to keeping our high count of compliments and low level of complaints. This role is customer facing and will involve communication via telephone, email and written letter.

The role is mainly home based working with occasional office days in Hove Town Hall. Therefore it is essential that you are motivated and able to concentrate whilst working on your own. Support is always available over the phone or via Teams online.

The team are wonderful to work with and will offer you support and understanding as you start your new role. The successful applicant will be line managed by an experienced Team Leader with  an impressive knowledge of our services and supportive nature. We welcome diverse, caring colleagues who actively support Equality and Diversity and the council's Anti Racism Policy.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and provide answers to some shortlisting questions. Your answers to the shortlisting questions are the most important part of your application as they will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Shortlisting questions guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.
