About the role

The SEN Team is responsible for the administration of the assessment of children and young people with SEND in line with the requirements of the SEN Code of Practice. Working in a busy environment, the SEN Casework Assistant will play a key role in supporting the service to ensure statutory requirements are met and support SEN Casework Officers in preparing, planning and overseeing the implementation of children/young people’s EHCPs on a daily basis.

The role will involve communicating with different services and handling various enquiries therefore the ability to multitask and work well under pressure, whilst still following required processes, is essential. Strong Microsoft Office skills, attention to detail and accuracy, flexibility and the ability to use your own initiative is key. You will also have excellent communication skills and a real passion for delivering excellent customer service as telephone work and answering email enquires is a large part of the role, where you will be the first point of contact for service users and other professionals.

This is a varied and demanding role which offers excellent opportunities to expand on existing knowledge and skills by working with an experienced administration team and taking advantage of the training opportunities available within the Council.

What the SEN Team can offer you as a SEN Casework Assistant:

  • 23 days leave a year, rising to 27 days after 5 years’ service
  • Being an active part of weekly administrative catch-up meetings
  • 1-2-1 support from your Business Manager
  • A program of learning and development opportunities through our Learning Gateway
  • Peer support from other Casework colleagues across the team
  • Benefits such as: bus ticket and cycle loans; reduced cost gym membership with Freedom Leisure

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and provide a supporting statement. Your supporting statement is the most important part of your application as it will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview.  Before you start your application, please read our guidance here Supporting statement guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.
