Job introduction

Independence at Home is a CQC registered service. We are seeking one Duty Officer (31 hrs per week) to join our team of four Duty Officers. You will be central to the running of our Duty Office which operates from 7.00am to 8.00pm daily.

For an informal discussion, please contact Jean Windsor - Operations Manager on 01273 295262.

About the role

The role involves shift work on a six week rota, and a requirement to work one weekend and a half in three and some bank holidays.

Within a 6 week rota each Duty Officer works one full weekend and one part weekend over a three week cycle. Flexi shifts are used to cover Duty as required i.e. either an early or late shift depending on need. Flexi shifts are also used for other types of service support.

Independence At Home works with people who are leaving hospital or to help prevent hospital admission, by encouraging and assisting individuals to be as independent as possible while living in their own homes. We work with adults who may be vulnerable and can have complex health and social issues.

The Duty Officer's role is crucial to the smooth and safe running of the service. The successful candidate will need to work well under pressure; be able to communicate well with people at all levels, staff, professionals, service users and families; have good attention to detail and the ability to take responsibility and make decisions.

We use an electronic monitoring system and the Duty Officer must have excellent IT skills to ensure that this is operated efficiently. If you think you have the relevant skills to fulfill this exciting and rewarding role, we would be pleased to receive your application.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and upload a supporting statement. Your supporting statement is the most important part of your application as it will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Supporting statement guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.
