About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join ru-ok?, Brighton & Hove's Under 18s Substance Use & Sexual Health Service, within our evolving and vibrant Adolescent Service.

As part of the Families, Children & Learning directorate, you will take a relationship based and whole family approach to the work.   The Drug Alcohol & Sexual Health team within ru-ok? comprises 3 workers, taking referrals from a variety of sources, including schools, social work and young people themselves.  You will primarily meet young people, identified as needing support around substance use and / or sexual health issues, within school settings.  The role involves working closely with school nurses and pastoral staff, whilst respecting service-user confidentiality.  Where possible you will also liaise with parents and carers.  You will be part of the ru-ok? duty offer and will attend regular team meetings and group supervisions.  Our service works alongside other disciplines, including youth offending, family therapy and social work teams.   You will play a role in a "Team Around the Worker" model, which can involve you receiving specialist support and guidance within complex helping networks.

The post holder will provide education, advice and guidance around substance use and sexual health, this can include provision of C-Cards and condoms, contraception advice, STI testing, accompanying young people to sexual health appointments, drug education and referring on to colleagues in the treatment service.  You will be expected to attend a range of meetings including school triages and statutory social work meetings.  You may deliver training to staff within schools or to other professionals working in the city. You will be encouraged to access to the council's comprehensive learning and development offer.

You will have experience of preventative work around drugs, alcohol and sexual health and working with adolescents.   For full details of essential criteria, please see attached job description and person specification.

The service is committed to ensuring equality of provision, working within Brighton & Hove which has pledged to be an anti-racist council. The team is fully committed to playing its part in dismantling racist structures and challenging racial inequality and all forms of discrimination.
