Seasonal Beach Lifeguard Patrol Boat Coxswain – Brighton & Hove beaches

We are currently recruiting a Patrol Boat Coxswain to assist the lifeguards working on the world famous Brighton and Hove bathing beaches during our summer season until 4th September.

£10.41/hour

About the role

With over 11 million visitors to Brighton & Hove each year, you will play a major part in keeping our beaches safe and enjoyable for all who use them.

In a typical summer season our Lifeguard & Seafront Team have responded to 134 incidents saving 46 lives and reunited 45 missing persons – it’s fair to say no day is the same, you will face challenges and you will make the difference in keeping people safe.

The role is high pressured and will require a high level of emotional resilience.

You will spend your day on the water for up to 8 hours, patrolling the coastline and offering assistance and protection to the Beach Lifeguard Team, assisting swimmers and advising all water users of the local bathing byelaws.

You will need substantial experience operating a patrol or safety semi ridged inflatable in a coastal environment, a minimum of a RYA power boat level 2 qualification and a Marine VHF Licence is desirable (DSC rating not required). You will need excellent customer service skills and should hold or be willing to obtain/train for the SLSGB beach lifeguard qualification or 1st Aid qualification or substantial transferable skills and experience. Basic boat maintenance is also desirable.

You will also be required to attend in house training throughout the season if recruited.

Fixed Term & Casual Contracts (23th May 2022 - 4th September 2022)

Casual contracts will be considered to compliment the service dependent on commitment to hours as will late starters.

The service is 7 days per week including weekends and public holidays.

Recruitment Process:

If your application is successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an assessment day/interview which will also involve a swim test.

If you are successful you will join a large team who are dedicated to ensuring the safety of residents and visitors who come to our beaches.
