Job introduction

Have you experience of providing a team with fast efficient, accurate administrative service? Do you have the skills to be first point of contact for residents, councillors and colleagues’ enquiries and complaints about equality and discrimination? Are you self-motivated and a good team player? If so, we have role that may suit you.

We are looking for four new staff to join our Communities, Equality and Third Sector Service: an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Manager, two Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officers and an Administrator. Together, with an existing EDI officer, you will be the council’s brain and heart for equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Interviews scheduled for week commencing 20th December

For an informal chat about the role or to flag a reasonable adjustment need for the application process, please call Emma McDermott, Head of Communities, Equalities and Third Sector, 07825113908.

About the role

As the team’s administrator, you will play a critical role in supporting the team’s effectiveness and efficiency. Alongside responsibilities such as processing payments, taking minutes and managing the team’s inbox, you will work with your colleagues to organise meetings with diverse communities removing any barriers to participation and provide project management support to new EDI initiatives, such as the development the council’s first Accessible City Strategy.

We value having a diverse team and the knowledge and experience that individuals from different backgrounds bring to the role and the council. We want you to bring your whole self to work. We welcome applications from individuals from all backgrounds and aim to have a workforce that represents the communities we serve.

We encourage staff to join one of our four staff networks and we are committed to reasonable adjustments and ongoing staff development. We will support you to be your best at Brighton & Hove City Council.

We are a Disability Confident employer and all candidates who are disabled or have a long term health condition are guaranteed an interview if they are able to demonstrate they meet the minimum criteria. If you need adjustments to apply due to a disability or long term health condition, please contact the recruiting manager.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and upload a supporting statement. Your supporting statement is the most important part of your application as it will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Supporting statement guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.
