Job introduction

An exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the organisation, in this role you will be supporting the Leader and Deputy Leaders of the Council.

About the role

The successful candidate will demonstrate tact, discretion and diplomacy at all times.

The role requires excellent communication skills, exceptional organisational and diary management skills, the ability to prioritise and juggle multiple requirements and deadlines, and the ability to work autonomously at times with some ambiguity and to be able to make pragmatic decisions independently.

It is also expected the successful applicant will have a high degree of flexibility and adaptability.

Right now, we are working in a hybrid way and can offer flexible working arrangements to suit your circumstances, as well as safe office accommodation if needed.

You will be working collaboratively with colleagues across the council and relevant organisations across the city to make connections to deliver shared goals. You will have the qualities to build effective relationships, and to ensure action is targeted where it is most needed.

Brighton & Hove City Council serves a vibrant city by the sea – a place that has ambitions to be a fairer city with a more sustainable future. We have made a pledge to become an anti-racist city, these ambitions, along with our Covid recovery plans will shape the work of our teams over the next few years.

This is an exciting time to join the organisation!

Please contact Abraham Ghebre-Ghiorghis, Executive Lead Officer, Strategy Governance & Law at abraham.ghebre-ghiorghis@brighton-hove.gov.uk if you would like to discuss anything about the role.

Closing date for receiving completed application forms is 5th December 2021.  Interviews will take place during the week commencing 13th December.

Application process

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and upload a supporting statement. Your supporting statement is the most important part of your application as it will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Supporting statement guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Work Permits: We may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System. Please see Gov.uk for more information on the Skilled Worker Visa.

Company information

We welcome applications from all sections of the community but particularly encourage applicants from a BME or White Other background as well as those who identify as disabled, LGB, male or trans as these groups are currently under-represented in our Directorate workforce.
