Job introduction

Brighton & Hove City Council is looking to expand its Public Health Intelligence team to meet the continuing challenges of Coronavirus.

Fixed term for: 18 months We would be happy to consider anyone who would like to apply on the basis of a secondment from their substantive job.  If you would like to apply on the basis of a secondment please get the agreement from your manager before applying.  

As this post will be for a fixed period covering Covid-19 related work, we would be happy to consider applicants who would work remotely and are not based in Brighton & Hove throughout the period of the contract.

About the role

The postholder will work with public health, environmental health and infection control professionals, as well as Public Health England’s Health Protection team, to support the COVID-19 Local Outbreak Plan and Health Protection Board, chaired by the Director of Public Health.

An effective local response relies upon having access to a range of specialist intelligence products, with the right systems and processes to make best use of local, regional and national data-sharing and intelligence developments. The post-holder will work to the Head of Public Health Intelligence and closely with the Consultant lead for Health Protection and other colleagues to develop a COVID-19 strategic intelligence workplan.

This new, fixed term post will combine operational and more strategic elements, and offers a rewarding mix of reactive and proactive, developmental work. As a specialised role, this job draws upon well-developed technical and data presentation skills in order to deliver COVID-19 intelligence products that are suited to a range of different formats, audiences and purposes; from operational decision-making to strategic assurance and governance reporting. Knowledge of infectious disease epidemiology concepts and analyses, and a good understanding of how Public Health in local government is situated within the wider population health and care system are essential. Previous experience of working within a collaborative or integrated population health intelligence role is a valuable for this role.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System.
