What the ECO4 and GBIS schemes are
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) and Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) are government schemes which require some energy suppliers to help with the cost of improving a home’s energy efficiency.
The energy efficient measures that could be available under ECO4 include:
- upgrade to a renewable heating system
- upgrade to HHR electric storage heaters
- heating controls
- solar PV
- cavity wall insulation
- external/internal wall insulation
- loft insulation
- floor insulation
- flat roof/pitched roof insulation
- room in the roof insulation
The energy efficient measures that could be available under GBIS include:
- cavity wall insulation
- loft insulation
- solid wall insulation (external and internal)
- pitched roof insulation
- flat roof insulation
- underfloor insulation
- solid floor insulation
- room-in-roof insulation
How to apply for ECO and GBIS funding
To apply for ECO or GBIS funding you must own your property or get permission from your landlord.
You can then contact an energy supplier directly to apply for ECO or GBIS funding. View the list of ECO suppliers.

A Statement of Intent allows councils to extend eligibility criteria for the ECO scheme, view the Brighton & Hove City Council ECO4 Flex and GBIS Statement of Intent.
