Emergency accommodation
We use emergency accommodation to house people in an emergency who we have a legal duty to house, or while we investigate that legal duty under the Housing or Care Acts.
You will be supported by your Homelessness Prevention Officer or Social Worker for example, and you will also receive support from our Welfare Officers.

Other ways to pay your rent
If you are unable to pay online or want to avoid getting into arrears, your housing rent can be paid in different ways to suit your needs.
In most cases, you will need your Person Reference or Payment Reference Number when paying your rent. This is stated in any letters that we’ve sent to you regarding your rent account.
If you still need to contact us to find out your payment reference number, phone 01273 294 400 and select option 3.
Lines are open:
- 9:30am to 4:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
- 9:30am to 1pm on Wednesday
Pay using a PayPoint
You can pay using your rent payment card at any shop showing the PayPoint logo. You can only pay by cash. To request a rent payment card you can either:
- send an email to CreditControlTeam@brighton-hove.gov.uk
- phone 01273 294 400
Pay by standing order
If you would like to set up a standing order with your bank, our bank details are:
Bank: Lloyds Bank
Account Name: Brighton & Hove Council General Account
Sort Code: 30-80-12
Account Number: 10631660
Quote your Person Reference or Payment Reference Number with the standing order.
You can also download our standing order form (PDF 96KB) and send it to your bank or building society to set up a standing order to pay your rent. Your bank or building society will then take your payments automatically. You'll need to tell them if your rent changes so they take the right amount.
