Pay your housing rent by Direct Debit
Paying by Direct Debit
If you set up a Direct Debit to pay your housing rent, you won't have to renew it or contact us. It'll run on automatically.
Advantages of a Direct Debit include:
- it's easy and convenient
- it's safe and secure
- payments are made automatically
You can also use our Direct Debit form to change your bank details or date of payment.
Direct Debit Guarantee
This Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.
If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, Brighton & Hove City Council will notify you 5 working days before your account is debited or as otherwise agreed.
If you request Brighton & Hove City Council to collect a payment, we'll confirm the amount and date at the time of the request.
If Brighton & Hove City Council or your bank or building society makes an error in your Direct Debit payment, you're entitled to a full and immediate refund.
If you receive a refund you're not entitled to, you must pay it back when Brighton & Hove City Council asks you to.
Cancelling your Direct Debit
You can cancel a Direct Debit by contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also contact the council to let us know you have cancelled your Direct Debit.
