The Clare Project
Supporting trans, non-binary and intersex adults in Sussex.
The Clare Project began in 2000 when a group of trans women started meeting in the back room of a hairdressing salon to discuss issues affecting their local community. They are now a registered charity run by and for trans, non-binary, gender-variant and gender-questioning people in Brighton & Hove, West Sussex and East Sussex.
The Clare Project run psychosocial support groups, information sessions, workshops and excursions, as well as providing information and training for individuals and organisations on community needs, and connecting people to affirmative peer support, psychotherapy and healthcare.
They also offer some support and advocacy for people who are intersex / have variations in their biological sex characteristics.

The Community Kitchen, Brighton and Hove Food Partnership
The Community Kitchen is a flagship social enterprise on Queens Road in central Brighton, which offers low-cost community cookery classes alongside higher-priced lessons which raise funds for the community work. Since June 2018, over 5,000 people have gained cookery skills & inspiration with us.
The Community Kitchen, is part of the wider work of the Brighton and Hove Food Partnership – which helps people learn to cook, grow food, eat a healthy diet and waste less. They run therapeutic gardens, process and redistribute surplus food and work to address food poverty.

Music for Connection
Brighton & Hove’s specialist community music service for adults of all abilities. Music for Connection wishes to contribute to a society in which everyone can connect through music-making.
The service promotes accessing, playing, and enjoying music together, regardless of economic circumstances, ability or needs, age, social status or previous musical experience.

Westdene Library
The library has:
- books and audiobooks which you can borrow or renew
- computers, a printer and a scanner– you can book these in advance
- free Wi-Fi
- separate areas for children and teenagers
Libraries include books to support people living with dementia, their families, friends and carers. There is a special collection of books called Reading Well – Dementia. The books in this collection have been chosen by health professionals, people with lived experience of dementia and their carers. There is also an Exempt library card for people who find it difficult to return library books on time owing to dementia. Please ask the library staff for more information.
