Brighton & Hove Safeguarding Children Partnership (BHSCP) 

The BHSCP will continue to offer learning and development as we work to get a new Learning Gateway in place. For more information on the learning and development available go to the BHSCP website  

Brighton & Hove Sexual Health and Contraception Service (SHAC) 

Brighton & Hove Sexual Health and Contraception Service (SHAC) is free, confidential and open to everyone. Services provided include: 

  • Testing for and providing preventative measures for sexually transmitted infections 
  • Contraception advice and support 
  • HIV advice and support 
  • Support and advice on sexual health and wellbeing 
  • Specialist clinics   

County Lines, Gangs, Vulnerability and Exploitation 

This course is intended to help you understand more about gangs, vulnerability and exploitation. It comprises a short video presentation, some specific learning resources and a multiple-choice assessment based on case studies and scenarios.  
The course is suitable for all staff working in a range of settings including families, children and adolescents; education; social care; housing providers; supported accommodation; regulatory services; community safety; mental health; public health; NHS, police and the community and voluntary sector. 

After completing this course you will be able to: 

  • understand the problem from a national perspective 

  • understand what might be going on locally 

  • understand who to contact and how to register / report concerns

COVID-19 Psychological First Aid 

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is the globally recommended training for supporting people during emergencies and offers guidance on delivering psychosocial care in the immediate aftermath of the emergency event. 

On this 3-week course, you'll explore the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and what you can do to help people cope. 

This course has been produced by Public Health England and is based on international guidance from the World Health Organisation, United Nations and partners 

Suicide Awareness 

This suicide awareness course will enable you to have potentially life saving conversations with someone you are worried about.   

Positive Behaviour Support 

This free, easy to access and good quality Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Awareness course provides a straightforward introduction to PBS. It explains PBS, putting values into practice, how behaviour works and PBS interventions.

This online learning course can be used for induction, as well as a refresher. It takes about 3 or 4 hours to complete and can be done in small bite size chunks to suit your learning style.

'Prevent' Online Learning 

This course offers an introduction to the Prevent duty. It explains how it aims to safeguard vulnerable people from being radicalised towards supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists themselves. The course is relevant to public facing services in Brighton & Hove.

The training addresses all forms of terrorism, and non-violent extremism that creates an environment conducive to terrorism. This includes far right and Al-Qaida/ Daesh inspired extremism threats to the UK. 

After completing the training you will be able to describe behaviours of concern and measures available to prevent people from being drawn into extremism and terrorism. 

This online course has been produced by the Home Office.
