Theese schools were chosen to be part of the SuDS in Schools programme as they are in water source protection zones and areas prone to flooding.
Carden Primary School
Carden Primary School’s playing field was good for playing football and other sports, but there was not much of interest for children who have other styles of play and little biodiversity.
In addition, homes in the area were getting flooded as during heavy rainfall. Significant volumes of rainwater flow down Carden Hill and join flows on Carden Avenue where there is now a separate rain garden.
Moulsecoomb Primary School
Moulsecoomb Primary School’s courtyard garden was well used by pupils but had become tired and a maintenance burden for the school.
The Aquifer Partnership (TAP) partnered with the school to create a beautiful water-friendly garden in the space, with emphasis on education and play opportunities.
