Project progress
The original sea wall was deteriorating and in urgent need of repair.
As part of the Black Rock rejuvenation project the wall has been re-aligned and replaced with a new freestanding wall.
Work to construct the wall started in Autumn 2021. We installed new 11m long steel sheet piles which provided the core strength to the new wall.
Once the steel sheet piles were in place, contractors Mackley cast a reinforced concrete face on the seaward side to give additional strength and resilience.
Working over the winter period meant keeping a close eye on the weather forecast, rearranging work when needed and battling with the elements, including Storm Eunice, the worst storm to hit the city for 30 years.
