We've aware of a national scam where people are asked to pay parking fines via text. We'll never text you to request a payment for a parking fine. We'll only contact you about parking fines via letter, or email if you have already provided it to us. If you have any doubts, contact the Parking Team.
Accessible City Strategy 2023 in easy read
An easy ready version on the Accessible City Strategy 2023.
What is the Accessible City Strategy?
We want Brighton & Hove to be a place where everyone feels included.
We want the city to be as accessible as possible for disabled people.
The strategy is a plan of the work the council will do to make this happen.
Why do we need the Accessible City Strategy?
Accessibility means being able to do everyday things like:
- be part of the community
- use transport
- go to work or volunteer
- get the support you need
- take part in activities and have fun
- have a choice of good housing.
- get good healthcare.
We know these things can be much harder for some people because of:
- disability
- learning disability and/or autism
- disabilities you cannot see like mental health
- speaking a different language.
- ethnic background.
- being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual or another identity.
The strategy is a plan to make these things fairer for everyone.
How did we write the strategy?
We worked with others to write the strategy.
We asked lots of people what we need to do to make life in Brighton and Hove good for everyone.
We listened to disabled people and people with other support needs from:
- Possability People
- Mind
- Grace Eyre
- Speak Out
- East Sussex Vision Support
- Amaze
How will we know if we are getting it right?
We have set up a Disability Panel.
This is a group of people who meet to talk about what the council is doing to make things more accessible.
The panel is made up of disabled people and people from:
- Possability People
- Mind
- Grace Eyre
- Speak Out
- East Sussex Vision Support
- Amaze
- Deaf Services Liaison Forum
They also bring feedback from different people and groups.
This helps make sure we are getting things right.
The strategy
What people told us
The Disability Panel decided the 3 most important things for us to concentrate on.
We have called these Priorities.
These are the 3 Priorities:
1. Engagement
- Making sure we listen to what disabled people are telling us.
- Telling disabled people about what the council is doing.
- Thinking about what disabled people need when we are making plans.
2. Data
- Using the information we have to understand what disabled people need.
- Using the information we have to plan services that are good for everyone.
3. Policy and practice
- Making sure we are doing things in the best way.
- Making sure we are sticking to the rules.
Working together
- Everyone at the council will work together towards making Brighton and Hove an Accessible City.
- There are 5 teams in the council. They will all follow the three priorities to make their service accessible to everyone.
