The Brighton & Hove Seafront Office has two all-terrain beach wheelchairs available for hire. The chairs were funded by the Aiming High for Disabled Children Programme in response to requests from young people and families.
The chairs use four low pressure inflatable tyres to navigate the shingle shores. They are made from stainless steel and have different seating options to meet your posture needs. An umbrella can be attached to the chair if needed.

How to get support from us
You can make a booking up to one week in advance, or you can ask to hire a wheelchair on the day of your visit. Slots are a maximum of two hours, so everyone can use them.
Please contact the Seafront Office if you expect your collection time to be delayed by more than 15 minutes. Your booking may be cancelled if you don't tell us.
You will need to:
- Bring proof of ID
- Complete a booking form
- Pay a £25 refundable deposit
- Sign a consent form
We will go through a few basic safety rules which you must follow when using the all terrain beach wheelchairs.
If you have your own wheelchair we can store it while you use the all-terrain wheelchair. However, please note that the Seafront Office does not have a hoist available to transfer from chair to chair.
Please contact the Seafront office for any further information and we will be happy to help. We are located between the two piers on the lower promenade.
