Go to a council meeting
Council meetings are public events, so you can come along to watch or take part.
Find upcoming public committee documents or find the council meetings calendar.
You can also watch live video of the meetings.
To raise an issue at a meeting you can:
- ask a question
- present a petition
- make a speech (also called a deputation)

What is a 'key decision'
The committee work programme highlights some of the decisions councillors will make in the next 12 months.
The programme includes all decisions that:
- involve spending or saving over £500,000 or
- affect more than one ward in the city
We call these 'key decisions.'
When officers can make decisions
An officer can only make a decision when it's linked to a single ward in the city and involves spending or saving less than £500,000.
