Voting when you have an illness, disability, or lack of mental capacity
Find out how to register to vote if you have an illness, disability, or lack of mental capacity.
How to register if you have an illness, disability, or lack of mental capacity
If you have an illness, disability, or lack of mental capacity, it does not make you ineligible to vote. You should still register to vote.
Someone else can help you make your application to register to vote, as long as you:
- consent to them applying for you
- confirm that the information provided on the application is correct
If a person has a lack of mental capacity or cannot consent
If a person cannot consent, someone with power of attorney can make the application to register to vote for them.
A power of attorney cannot vote, or apply for a postal or proxy vote, on that person's behalf.
You can register to vote online, or contact us and we can send you a paper application form.
Return completed application forms to us:
- as a clear scan or photo, by email
- by post to Electoral Services, Hove Town Hall, Norton Road Hove, BN3 3BQ.
Accessible voting
It’s important that everyone who has a vote is able to use it. There are accessibility arrangements in place at polling stations, and options for those who are unable to get to their polling station.
