Renewing your postal vote
Find out how to renew your postal vote if it's expired.
Why you might need to renew your postal vote
Following changes brought in by the Elections Act 2022, postal voting arrangements for UK residents now expire every 2 to 3 years. You will be contacted by email or by post before your postal vote expires to give you the opportunity to renew for a further 2 to 3 years.
The process for renewing your postal vote is the same as applying for a new one.
How to apply for a postal vote
You need to verify your identity when you apply for a postal vote. You can do this by providing your National Insurance number. If you can't provide a National Insurance number, or we aren't able to verify your identity with it, we'll ask you for more identification.
The signature you provide on your postal vote application must be the same as the signature you provide when you vote. If the signatures do not match, then we will reject your vote.
To get your postal vote, you can:
- apply for a postal vote online
