Find out the number of signatures required on a change of governance petition to verify it.
Under the Local Government Act 2000, you can petition the council on whether they should change to a different form of governance. If at least 5% of voters in Brighton & Hove sign a petition supporting a change, then there will be a referendum.
As of 15 February 2025, the number that is equal to 5% of voters in Brighton & Hove is 10,011.
We'll use this number to determine the validity of any petitions from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026.
