The Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner election took place on Thursday 2 May 2024. The results were announced on Sunday 5 May 2024.

Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner
The Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) is responsible for setting the strategic objectives for policing in Sussex. This includes:
- setting and updating a police and crime plan
- setting the force budget and precept
- appointing and - where necessary - dismissing, the Chief Constable
The Police & Crime Panel plays a key role in scrutinising decisions made by the commissioner in connection to these responsibilities.
These arrangements are designed to increase the transparency and accountability of policing services, where the Chief Constable of Sussex Police is accountable to the commissioner, and the commissioner is accountable to the electorate.
Police & Crime Commissioners are elected every four years.

Sussex Police Area Returning Officer
Brighton & Hove City Council’s Returning Officer assumes the role of the Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) for the Sussex police area.
The PARO’s responsibilities include:
- candidate nominations
- ensuring the election is delivered consistency across the Sussex area
- encouraging participation
- collating and declaring the result
