Who can be a proxy
Your proxy must be:
- someone you trust
- registered to vote
- eligible to vote in the election you’re appointing them for
Your proxy will need to show photo ID of themselves when they vote on your behalf at a polling station.

Usually a person can't be a proxy for more than 2 people in an election. If they are voting on behalf of British citizens living overseas, they can be a proxy for up to 4 people.
What happens after you apply for a proxy vote
Once you have registered a proxy vote, your proxy will be sent details of where to vote. This will be your local polling station. If your proxy is unable to get to your polling station, they may be able to apply to vote as a proxy by post.
You can still vote in person, so long as your proxy has not already voted for you or applied to vote as a proxy by post.
