Brighton BID Ballot
A ballot on the establishment of a Business Improvement District in Brighton will take place on Thursday 11 December.
What a BID is
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a defined area in which a levy is charged on all eligible business rate payers in addition to the business rates bill. This levy is used to develop projects which will benefit businesses in the local area.
Who can vote
Only eligible business rate payers are eligible to vote in the BID ballot.
You are an eligible rate payer if you are liable for the business rates of a hereditament that has a rateable value of £10,000 or over and is inside the defined area.
If you are an eligible rate payer for multiple hereditaments, you will be issued with a vote for each hereditament.
How to vote
The ballot will be conducted entirely by post.
Postal votes will be dispatched on 11 November 2025. If you believe you are eligible, and you have not received your postal vote by 18 November, please contact the Electoral Services team:
Results
For the BID ballot to be successful there must be a majority of those voting in favour of the proposal, both in terms of:
- the number of votes, and
- the aggregate rateable value represented by those voting
The result will be declared on Friday 12 December 2025.
