About councillor's allowances
The levels of allowances are recommended by the Independent Remuneration Panel.
Explanatory note
Read these notes to find out what the information and figures in the columns mean.
Councillor - a Member of Brighton & Hove City Council who is a Councillor.
Basic Allowance - an allowance paid to each Councillor.
Special Responsibility Allowance - an allowance paid to Councillors who hold positions of additional responsibility, such as the Committee Chair. This will be received as well as the Basic Allowance
Travel and Subsistence - payable to Councillors to reimburse them for costs incurred in carrying out certain council duties.
Dependent Carer Allowance - an allowance that may be claimed by Councillors to cover the expenses of arranging for the care of their children or dependants. This is only when necessarily required in carrying out an approved duty.
Deduction - deductions made from a Councillor’s Basic Allowance towards repayments for items such as Bus Passes, Parking Permits and others.
Total - the total amount paid to each Councillor.
