Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Open Data and the Local Government Transparency Code

The Local Government Transparency Code has been issued to:

  • meet the government’s desire to increase democratic accountability
  • make it easier for local people to contribute to the local decision-making process and help shape public services

As part of the Transparency Code, Brighton & Hove City Council needs to publish certain data in relation to fraud and investigation activity.

The following information relates to investigations into fraud and irregularity carried out by Internal Audit and Counter Fraud.

For the purpose of these figures "fraud" is an intentional false representation, including failure to declare information or abuse of position, that is carried out to make gain, cause loss or expose another to the risk of loss. This includes cases where management-authorised action has been taken including, but not limited to:

  • disciplinary action
  • civil action
  • criminal prosecution
