Why is there a waiting list?

Due to the number of flats and houses in Brighton & Hove and the amount of available parking spaces it is sometimes necessary to introduce waiting lists for certain parking zones.

How does the waiting list work?

There are a set number of permits available for each parking zone. At the beginning of each month we offer the number of permits which have been returned, or not renewed, from the previous month. This number can vary considerably therefore waiting times are approximate.

Blue Badge holders are automatically eligible for a residents permit and do not need to join the waiting list.

Moving into an area with a waiting list

  • If you are moving from an area without a waiting list to an area with a waiting list you will be required to wait for your permit.
  • If you have been on a waiting list without getting a permit and then move into another waiting list area we will transfer you using the date you originally applied.
  • If you have been on a waiting list, received a permit and then move to another waiting list area we will deduct the time already waited meaning we may not be able to issue you with a permit instantly.

If you currently hold a permit you must give it back to us before you can be added to the waiting list.

How do I put myself on the waiting list?

Please complete the form shown below and return it to us, with your proof of residency, to the Parking Permit Centre.
