Tidy Up Team volunteer litter pickers
Help our grounds maintenance teams keep your beautiful parks and open spaces litter-free by joining our Tidy Up Team scheme.
The Tidy Up Team is a project organised by the council to provide individuals with the skills, information, tools, and materials to carry out litterpicking tasks safely in green spaces across the city.
If you’re interested in helping, you can join as a member or a supporter.
Tidy Up Team supporters
As a Tidy Up Team Supporter you will receive regular updates and information about the activities of the team and you will be invited to get involved.
We encourage our supporters to come along to the monthly Big Tidy Up that is supported or organised by the Tidy Up Team.
We also encourage our supporters to get more involved and become a member by attending one of our regular training courses.
Tidy Up Team members
Tidy Up Team members will receive training, protective equipment, materials, tools, and support from the council. This training and support will enable you to collect litter safely in green spaces and parks across the city and dispose of it using approved methods on your own.
Members are only expected to spend a minimum of 15 minutes each week collecting litter but are encouraged to do more if they wish.
After each litterpicking session, members are asked to complete a simple online form to help with future litter strategies for the green spaces.
Some members are involved in the Tidy Up Team Steering Group and others have organised Big Tidy Up events in their local green space.
Tidy Up Team members should be able to:
- attend a morning training course
- use a mobile phone
- access email and the internet
- wear sturdy footwear for safety
You need to be at least 18 years old and be reasonably fit and mobile. If you are litterpicking by yourself, you need to be able to use a litterpick stick and carry a rubbish bag at the same time.
