Volunteering in libraries
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Brighton and Hove City Libraries. We are committed to recruiting volunteers from all sections of the community.
However due to the high volume of recent applicants, we are not currently recruiting new volunteers. We will be advertising volunteer opportunities at a later date.

Volunteer roles in Brighton & Hove libraries
Stock Assistant volunteer
We are seeking to recruit and train Stock Assistant volunteers to help in community libraries during Libraries Extra hours. This exciting opportunity will involve looking after library stock and helping customers find, borrow and return library materials. This role will entail lone working - full training and support will be given.
Please be aware there are no current vacancies for Stock Assistant volunteers in Jubilee, Hove and community libraries during staffed hours.
Volunteer to help people with IT
We offer a get online in libraries service to help people learn basic IT skills. From teaching absolute beginners the basics of using a computer, tablet or smart phone, through to exploring ways to save money online and get information about the council, our volunteers are helping everyone get access to the web.
We have a new opportunity to help customers with IT in Brighton & Hove Customer Service Centres as a Council Connect Volunteer.
Home Delivery Service Volunteer
Many people are unable to get to one of our libraries because of disability, serious illness, or caring responsibilities. Our Home Delivery Volunteers can help by bringing books and audio books to people in their own homes, providing a vital service to some of the city’s most isolated residents. We would like to be able to offer this service across the whole city, so we’re looking for many more volunteers to help out. Find out more about our home delivery service.
Library Greeter Volunteer
We’re looking for friendly and helpful individuals to make our customers feel welcome in the library. Duties include encouraging full use of library facilities, signposting to information & services and helping customers use library equipment.

All volunteer roles within the library service support the existing work of paid staff and do not replace the work of paid staff. Support will be given to ensure that boundaries are maintained by staff and to ensure there is no replacement or substitution of staff by volunteers.
