Fire safety advice for agents
The council has written to all known managing agents with responsibility for one or more privately owned purpose built high rise blocks of flats in the city, reminding them of their responsibilities for fire safety in their buildings.
The letter, jointly written by Brighton & Hove City Council and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, includes a 21-point fire safety checklist to help agents review, check and carry out fire risk assessments.
The letter tells the agents to ensure an ‘appropriately qualified and competent person’ assesses the building and stresses they must be fully involved in the assessment process as they are responsible for the safety of their residents.

If you are a resident in a privately owned, purpose built high rise block of flats, you should check to see if the owner, landlord or manager is carrying out their fire safety responsibilities.
