Extra Care Housing Strategy for Older People in Brighton & Hove
In Brighton & Hove, we recognise the important role that extra care housing has in meeting the needs of older people in the community. The development of this model of care is seen as a priority by the council and, following consultation, we have developed an Extra Care Housing Strategy [PDF 170kb], which sets out the steps that need to be taken to achieve service modernisation.
While we recognise the need to develop extra care housing for older people, creating combined accommodation and care throughout the city requires detailed and long term planning.
Therefore, our strategy seeks to achieve an integrated approach to accommodation and care and is based on providing extra care housing as a mainstream resource in meeting the needs of older people – reducing the need for residential care, impacting on hospital admission and enabling the discharge of older people from acute hospital beds.
