What is the Hearing Support Facility (HSF)?
The HSF is part of the council's Sensory Needs provision for hearing impaired pupils in Brighton & Hove.
Based at Bevendean Primary School, the HSF offers supported access to mainstream primary education in line with our policy of inclusion.
Who comes here?
Children who come to the HSF have a significant degree of hearing impairment and delayed communication and language development. These pupils will have a Statement of Educational Needs or are undergoing a Statutory Assessment.
The HSF consists of two large and well-equipped inter-connecting rooms, including a playroom offering a quiet space for one to one and small group work. Many of the classrooms in the school are acoustically treated and have sound field systems. The school hall also has a sound field system.
The HSF offers daily specialist intervention and in-class support from a Teacher of the Deaf and hearing support assistants.There is also weekly on-site support from a specialist Speech and Language therapist and regular support from an Educational Audiologist.
