Timeline - setting our budget for 2018/19
Full Council will meet in February 2018 to debate our final council budget proposals including how much Council Tax will be.
July 2017 - We agree the budget setting process
The process to set our budget starts in July each year. The Policy, Resources and Growth Committee met on 13 July 2017 to discuss the budget update and agree the budget setting process.
November 2017 - We present our initial budget proposals
Our proposals for the council’s 2018/19 budget were published on Wednesday 22 November. Wednesday 22 November was the same day that the government will publish their Autumn 2017 budget.

These initial budget proposals were discussed at the Policy, Resources and Growth Committee on Thursday 30 November 2017.
We’ll be engaging with staff who are affected by the proposals throughout the budget setting process.
January 2018 - Our Council Tax reduction scheme for 2018/19 is agreed
We’re required to review our Council Tax reduction scheme every year.
The proposed Council Tax reduction scheme for 2018/19 means that the council will absorb around £4.5 million shortfall in funding.
We're proposing to keep the minimum contribution rate at the current level for working age people and continue to provide discretionary funds for those in temporary hardship

January 2018 - The ‘Tax Base Report’ helps us estimate our potential income from Council Tax and Business Rates
The Policy, Resources and Growth Committee will meet to consider the Tax Base Report, which estimates the number of chargeable properties in the city for Council Tax and Business Rates.
The government confirm the Local Government Finance Settlement.
February 2018 - Budget Council meeting
Policy, Resources and Growth Committee will meet to consider the overall budget package and recommend to Budget Council.
Budget Council will meet on Thursday 22 February 2018 to debate the final council budget proposals including how much Council Tax will be.
