School term and holiday dates
Extended autumn half term breaks in October 2017 and October 2018
We've extended the autumn half term for Brighton & Hove maintained schools in 2017. The same holiday pattern is planned for the 2018 to 2019 school year.
We will review these changes and make a decision about if they will continue in future years.
School term dates
Academies, free schools and independent schools/nurseries may have different term dates, please check directly with the school. We've agreed these dates with maintained schools following consultation with the schools and their communities.

In-service Training (INSET) days and school closures
Schools are also closed for five staff training days each school year, known as INSET days. One of these days is always the day before pupils start back to school for the autumn term.
Please check with individual schools for their INSET days.
Requests for leave during school term time
The law says that parents do not have an automatic right to take their children out of school for holidays during term-time. Holidays in term time will only be authorised by a school in exceptional circumstances.
