EYC training - Safeguarding & Child Protection – an introduction for childminders

This is an elearning course, which can be started at anytime.


This online course supports Childminders to understand what child abuse is and how to protect children and be aware of when and where this abuse may happen. It provides information on what to do if you are worried about a child in your care and provides next steps and support for you and the child.

NOTE: This course now includes updated information regarding the 'Prevent Duty' (Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015).

By the end of this course learners will:

• Interpret legislation relating to protecting and safeguarding children from harm
• Recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms of child abuse
• Outline procedures for reporting concerns
• Identify what may happen if concerns are not raised


Approximately 2-3 hours to complete (depending on learning speed). As an e-learning module you can complete this training in convenient stages and revisit whenever you wish.


What level / who should do this training?

This course is for Childminders working with young children in the early years.

Please note: Practitioners from group settings are not eligible for this course and should instead book onto a Safeguarding Children: Children in Need of Protection session.


Please be aware that there will be sensitive stories and topics within this training and we recommend you do this training in a quiet place as some of the stories could be upsetting and you may need some quiet down time.
