Choose Jump Start Nursery for your child

Our Aim

At Jump Start our ethos is to provide a safe, fun, engaging and nurturing environment where all children and adults are valued as individuals. We do this through nurturing key person relationships where we work closely with parents and carers to gain a good understanding of each child and their family. We provide lots of sensory and creative play both indoors and out where children are encouraged to explore their interests. Children love our spacious rooms, designed to support their learning whilst they enjoy a variety of stimulating activities

We provide high quality care and learning for children aged from three months to five years and welcome children from any part of the city. We have specific expertise in including children with additional needs.

Our environment

Indoors, we provide enabling environments for all age groups. Children enjoy creative and sensory activities, where adults follow their lead and intervene sensitively. We have 2 rooms for 2 age groups, under 2’s, 2-5’s. Each room is spacious and fully equipped to support the children’s learning through play and exploration. Outdoors, we have a fantastic garden for children to explore. Children are able to access the garden come rain or shine, exploring and having lots of fun. We have a free range hutch with our resident guinea pigs, who the children enjoy looking after.

Our staff

Children enjoy free flow activities with the support of sensitive and caring key persons. All our staff are qualified and have a wealth of knowledge and experience of working with children. We have a strong ‘key-person’ approach where each child and family has a dedicated member of staff who builds secure relationships, giving the children the confidence to explore the nursery. The key person supports the children with all aspects of their settling, their development and their transitions. The key person and parents work closely together to share information and support the children.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We cater for children with a wide variety of additional needs and differing abilities. We are inclusive and passionate about all children we care for. We have a fully qualified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator and many staff are experienced in caring for children with additional needs and some hold SEND qualifications gained through training. We have a fully equipped Sensory area in the Adventurers room and a space for use with children with SEND where they have small group interventions and one to one support. We work closely with other professionals and often have speech therapy sessions in the nursery.

Inclusion

We have support from the Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS) and bilingual support for some of our children. We have 9 different languages spoken in our nursery. We are currently working towards becoming a Nursery of Sanctuary, as part of BHCC’s City of Sanctuary award.

Food

We provide breakfast for our 8am starters. Our lunches and teas are sourced and cooked locally and delivered fresh to us on a twice daily basis. We can cater for dietary requirements for diagnosed allergies/intolerances and offer a vegetarian option. Our menu runs on a 3 week rolling basis and supports healthy choices for children. Breakfasts are included in the below fees. Lunches and teas are optional and charged separately.

Flexible, emergency and occasional childcare

Ad-hoc sessions may be booked subject to availability for children already attending the nursery. We will consider each request for occasional or emergency childcare on an individual basis, subject to availability.

Transport options

There are lots of local bus routes that run frequently, including 49, 25, 25X, 24, 28 and 29. We are located by Moulsecoomb Children's Centre  and there is plenty of parking for dropping off and collecting children.
