Help for children with autism
Autistic Spectrum Condition Support Service
We are part of Brighton & Hove's education services, working as an outreach service for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) in mainstream schools.
Once your child has been assessed and there is a diagnosis of an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), your child's details will be passed on to us. We will arrange to visit your child's school to find out more about them. If further advice is needed the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) will complete a referral form, with the permission of parents/carers.
We will also carry out further visits when asked by schools. These are usually to observe children in class and at break. We will make a record of our visit. A copy of any details or recommendations will be sent to the school. We may also share this information with other professionals, for example an educational psychologist or the school's speech and language therapists.
We may also write reports for Annual Reviews, if a pupil has a Statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN), or occasionally to support requests for further help eg a letter to an exam board to ask for additional time.
We hold regular parent support group meetings. Find out more on our parent support group page.

Please note that the ASCSS is a schools-based service, and operates during school term times only.
The pictures used on the ASCSS pages were created by pupils at Downs Park School, with thanks to both children and staff.
