One Voice
What the One Voice programme is and what we're doing in Brighton & Hove.
About One Voice
Brighton & Hove City Council facilitates One Voice meetings with community activists and representatives from Black & Racially Minoritised, faith and all minority communities in the area.
The aim of the One Voice programme is to empower communities.
We do this by:
- ensuring positive media messages on local Black & Racially Minoritised communities
- developing community resilience against extremism and terrorism
- ensuring joint working to support cohesion and integration
- helping communities come together to celebrate shared values around promoting:
- inclusion
- pluralism
- partnership working
Training
We learnt from the One Voice meetings that participants want training in 2 key areas.
These included:
- understanding systems and processes around reporting in hate incidents and crimes
- countering Islamophobia
We responded to this feedback by working with Faith Matters. 30 people from diverse communities attended training. The training was part of the work of the One Voice programme and the Racial Harassment Forum.
If you would like more information on training provided within the One Voice programme, send an email to Nahida.Shaikh@brighton-hove.gov.uk.
