The web and social media provide many opportunities for those with extreme views to target young or susceptible individuals.
People may be targeted through:

- iPads
- home computers
- other internet-enabled devices including gaming consoles
This can happen in someone's home or when out.
Tackling extremist material is important to protect the public and prevent offences that incite or promote terrorism and extremism.
Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit
The Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit (CTIRU) was formed in 2010 to investigate and remove online material which breaches the UK Terrorism Act. CTIRU depends on information from the public and communities to keep us all safe.
