Mile Oak Road
Find out about our plans to build 29 council homes to rent at affordable rates.
About the Mile Oak Road project
We're planning to build 29 council homes on the land off Mile Oak Road. This is part of the New Homes for Neighbourhoods programme. We'll rent the homes at affordable rates to households on the local housing register.
What is happening now at Mile Oak Road
Following 2 previous consultations held in September 2024 and March 2025, we have now submitted a planning application under reference BH2026/00074.
Mile Oak Road project history
We prepared initial development proposals to provide 31 council homes in early 2021. We informed local residents of our plan to build homes and informed them that surveys would take place.
We put on hold our early-stage proposals for a low-density development of 2, 3, and 4-bedroom homes, including 3 wheelchair-accessible homes. This allowed time for the consultation on City Downland Estate Plan proposals.
The submitted designs are for 2 and 3-bedroom family houses, and include 2 wheelchair-accessible units.
Project time plan
January to April 2026
The planning application might take 3 to 4 months to be processed. On completion, it will be presented by the Planning Case Officer at the Planning Committee meeting. These meetings are typically held on the first Wednesday of each month. The committee will decide whether to give or refuse planning permission.
Summer 2026
We will appoint a building contractor to finalise the technical design and build the houses.
Engagement and consultation
In January 2026, we sent a letter to residents to notify them of the planning application submission and reference number. The public can comment through the planning register portal until 23 February 2026.
