Communal bin collections

Some communal waste collections are currently disrupted due to the need for essential repairs to specialist vehicles. Repairs are underway, and we expect to have them back on the road within the next week. Read our full update on communal bin collections.

In January 2024, Brighton & Hove City Council and Brighton & Hove Museums were awarded £4.3 million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for improvements to the Royal Pavilion Garden.

We're currently working with Brighton & Hove Museums and Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival on exciting plans to reunify the estate and conserve the heritage of this world-class cultural and heritage destination.

The project will conserve the Royal Pavilion Garden, which is one of the country’s most important Regency landscapes, and promote its rich heritage to visitors.

The garden will be recognised and treated as one of the city’s historic sites, alongside the Royal Pavilion and museums.

Proposals of the project

Proposals aim to:

  • invest in the conservation of the Garden, including:
    • putting in place more efficient irrigation and drought-resistant planting
    • protecting the roots of heritage elm trees
    • promoting local biodiversity
  • conserve and restore many features including the listed lamp posts and balustrade
  • reinstate historic beds and restore worn paths and lawns
  • improve lighting, drainage, recycling, and seating
  • help people discover the heritage through new information onsite and online, as well as through a creative programme of activities
  • create a new learning programme and outdoor learning space for children and young people
  • extend community engagement
