Brighton Dome’s historic Grade I and Grade II listed Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre re-opened in Spring 2023, following a six-year, £38 million refurbishment.
The refurbishment is the first phase of a regeneration project by Brighton & Hove City Council, in partnership with Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival and Brighton & Hove Museums to cement the Royal Pavilion Estate as a landmark UK destination for heritage and the arts.
About the Corn Exchange refurbishment project
The project has included substantial restoration and upgrades to both venues, including conserving vital heritage features and improving the visitor experience and facilities for artists and audiences.
Improvements have included:
- a new venue access frontage which maximises the opportunities created by the shared space scheme on New Road and contains a modern ticket sales outlet, retail facilities, and a restaurant and café that integrate with the Royal Pavilion Garden
- an exciting new creation space
- improved working conditions for artists
- refurbishment of the 230 seat Studio Theatre to improve capacity and facilities
- improvements to the Corn Exchange to improve audience facilities and heritage interpretation
- enhanced visitor experience, including a new viewing gallery into the Corn Exchange
- much needed additional office space and equipment storage
- additional opportunities for Brighton Dome to be both a cultural and tourism focus for the city
The project has been realised with leadership support from Arts Council England, National Lottery Heritage Fund and Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, alongside trusts and foundations and many individual donors.
