What's happened so far

The Hove Station Area has long been recognised as a key strategic development opportunity in the city. It is a designated ‘Development Area’ (DA6) in the Brighton & Hove City Plan Part 1.

The Sackville and Hove Gardens sites have both been the subject of various development proposals since the 2000s and beyond. Both sites have received planning permissions in the last few years and are currently under construction.

In 2017 ‘One Public Estate’ funding was received from central government to provide a masterplan for the area to help guide remaining development opportunities and provide a coherent overall urban quarter in the area, in line with planning policy.

The masterplan was prepared in the form of a supplementary planning document in order to help provide increased certainty for future development proposals and planning decisions.

Following stakeholder consultation exercises and the preparation of a draft document, the final version of the Hove Station Area Supplementary Planning Document (SPD18) was adopted by the council in September 2021.
