We designed the programme in the phases outlined below. Work is now almost complete.

The Outdoor Sports Hub

The hub has new toilets and changing facilities. These replace the toilets previously on Western Esplanade.

There's a new café, opening in Spring 2025, and the hub is also the new home of the bowls club.

You can see our latest drone videos of how the work is progressing at the bottom of the page.

A new electrical substation has been provided, located to the east of Rockwater. The existing wall and planting will help mask its location over time.

Wheeled sports area & westerly gardens

Works at the former pitch and put area started in mid-October 2023.

The area in the west saw the opening of our wheeled sports area in September 2024. This includes a skatepark, 150-metre long pump track and 600m square roller area. We've designed all the facilities to be family-friendly and to encourage people of all ages and abilities.

The previous skatepark at Hove Lagoon was then closed and the amusements area moved to that site. This freed up space and created a wider green area for families visiting Hove Lagoon.

We are also developing the section to the east into a new garden area. This will include ramps and pathways to make it more accessible. This garden has been planted but will remain closed until spring 2025 to allow the planting to establish.

Tennis and padel tennis area

6 traditional tennis courts and 4 padel courts have been created. The padel courts opened in December 2024, and the tennis courts in March 2025. Game4Padel will operate both the tennis and padel facilities.

The colour of the tennis courts is temporary -  we wanted to open for them for play as quickly as we could. They will be painted as soon as the weather is warm enough, and new lines will be added at the same time.

Book a tennis court.

Hove Lagoon

This phase started in January 2024 and was completed in August 2024.

This project had a goal to improve accessibility for all. A new path was built from Kingsway to the paddling pool area providing a gentler gradient and handrail. This gives easy access to the pool and the newly refurbished, accessible toilets.

Easterly gardens

The gardens have been planted but will remain closed until spring 2025 to allow the planting to establish.

Sand sports area

Yellowave, which launched Britain's first beach sports centre on Madeira Drive, has been awarded the lease for a second sand sports centre in the city, at Hove Beach Park. Planning permission was granted in March 2025.

Lighting

Following successful testing in December 2024, park lighting is now operational. The steps and cross-routes will stay lit all night and the wheeled sports lights will turn off at 10pm. All other park areas will be lit until 10.15pm every day.

The lights have a warm white glow and special covers to reduce light spill for nearby residents
