How we worked with residents and stakeholders

We've worked with residents and other key stakeholders to develop plans for the rejuvenation of Black Rock.

We held a full consultation during the planning process. 86% of respondents said they backed the principles behind the scheme.

The development brief for Black Rock will be shaped by public consultation for the permanent future redevelopment of the site. Councillors will then decide on the final brief.

We're committed to working with residents and stakeholders as the scheme progresses. Visit the Black Rock latest news page for regular updates.

Whilst we're always happy to discuss ideas for the site, we are not encouraging formal proposals in advance as we cannot prejudge what the consultation process will produce. Any updates on the progress at Black Rock will be published on our website.

Seafront Development Board

In January 2025 it was announced that Steve Bassam, The Rt Hon Lord Bassam of Brighton, will chair a new Seafront Development Board to shape the transformation of our seafront.

As a previous leader of the council, a member of the House of Lords and the recent chair of a parliamentary select committee on the Regeneration of Seaside Towns, Steve has the knowledge, experience and understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of being a city by the sea.

A search was launched for a broad representation of residents and businesses to join the board.

Read more about the Seafront Development Board.

If you would like to volunteer to join the Board, visit our volunteering opportunities page.
