Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant (OHLG)

In January 2022, the government introduced a grant scheme to support Hospitality, Leisure and accommodation businesses experiencing difficulties because of the Omicron variant.

Applications for the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant (OHLG) and the linked Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) have now closed.

We are pleased to confirm that since November 2020, we have provided more than 29,000 business grant payments. This totals almost £73 million.

For the first lockdown in spring 2020, we gave more than £69 million in small business grants to over 5,100 businesses in Brighton & Hove.

Around 300 businesses who were not eligible for these grants benefited from discretionary grants of up to £25,000.

2,700 businesses did not have to pay business rates last year. This amounts to £68 million of rates that local businesses did not have to pay and provided significant direct support for small businesses in the city.

Business rates discount

From July 2021, eligible businesses like shops, hospitality and leisure received a 66% business rates discount.

The discount is subject to state subsidies with a capped value of either £105,000 or £2 million depending on whether the business was legally allowed to open during the national lockdown that started 5 January 2021.

This scheme will run for one year and the discount is applied to the bill after the application of any reliefs, excluding any local discounts.
