Licensing of Amusement With Prizes equipment (gambling machines).

Under the Gambling Act 2005, all types of gaming machines now fall under the Council’s control. They fall into categories depending on limits on the stake laid down and prizes available:

* Category D machines with a 10p stake are entitled to offer prizes of up to £5 in cash, or up to £5 in cash and £3 in non-monetary prizes. Category D machines with a 30p stake can offer £8 in non-monetary prizes only.

Adult gaming centres, family entertainment centres (licensed and unlicensed), casino, betting, and bingo operators are entitled to offer a set number of gaming machines of certain categories, depending on their premises.

Games of skill such as quiz machines and amusement only machines such as ‘space invaders’ do not require a permit under the new act.
