Become a Brighton & Hove licensed taxi driver
We recommend that you enrol at one of the commercial knowledge schools and begin learning the Brighton & Hove knowledge. Once you're a large portion of the way through the course, you'll need to complete an application form, undergo a medical examination, police and DVLA checks.
You will also need to achieve the Level 2 BTEC Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver Award. You can arrange this by contacting training companies or colleges.
When you are ready to make your first application, you will need to complete the relevant application forms.
You will also be required to pass the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) Hackney Carriage/Private Hire Assessment. Information regarding fees and the telephone booking number can be found in the latest DSA information pack.
Once you're deemed to be a fit and proper person, and passed the Brighton & Hove knowledge tests and routes test, you can get a taxi driver licence. The blue handbook provides guidance for Hackney Carriage and private hire drivers, vehicles and operators.
